Recreational Equestrians

For the recreational equestrian, the focus is to work on elements of riding, grooming, and stable management that are appropriate for people who wish to be life-long equestrians.  Lessons will work on developing communication with the horses and ponies, bonding, proper riding techniques, theory, and caring for the equine environment.  Equestrians in this program may look towards a recreational lease as they develop.  Lessons can be designated as flat only, or a combination of flat and over fences training.  Over fences training is a maximum of 2 times per month.  This program is great for people just starting out, for people returning to riding after taking a break, and life-long riders!  Maplewood offers three levels of recreational programs.

Show Team Equestrians

For individuals with an interest in the competitive side of horseback riding, Maplewood provides training for the English disciplines of dressage and hunter.  The focus of this program is to work on elements of riding, grooming, and stable management that are appropriate for not only being life-long equestrians, but also for people who enjoy  discipline-specific riding.  Lessons, along with developing the same communication, bonding, and care of the equines and stables of the recreational programs, will work on preparing students for classes that may come up at local, regional, and/or provincial level competitions in dressage and hunter.  This program is great for people with experience, who may be interested in competing at the in-house shows, the OESS shows, Westar Development series, Bronze Trillium shows, and/or Silver (provincial) dressage.  You do not need to be a member of the Show Team in order to enjoy this program, though!  This would also be a great program for anyone wishing to explore or practice the elements of dressage and hunter for fun!  Lessons can be designated as flat only (dressage and hunter hack and hunter under saddle) or a combination of flat and over fences.  Over fences training in lessons is a maximum of two times per month.  Maplewood offers three levels of programs for Show Team Equestrians.
